Rosie has always been a go getter, not afraid of having to work hard for what she wanted. She loves action and being around people, generally being the center of attention. When she gets an idea in her head she will pursue it until completion.

She is a very loving and trusting person and will assume a person is her friend until they do something to lose that status. She doesn’t let her lack of hearing affect her outlook on life, at least externally. ­­Internally she is doubtful of her self worth, in her darkest moments she feels like she is nothing but the burden her parents treated her as. She tries so hard because she wants to prove to herself and to everyone else that she is worth something.

She gets frustrated when she can’t communicate with someone. She can be somewhat impatient when it comes to dealing with hearing people who mumble or don’t look at her while talking, although she doesn’t hold grudges and is willing to work with people that want to learn how to communicate with her.

History:
Born to a young couple, not even married a year, Rosie was always viewed at a problem child. She was a year old when they realized she was completely deaf. They were young and in love, and not the most attentive parents. When faced with her disability her parents treated her like she was an idiot and that would get better if she would stop being so dense and if they yelled loud enough. She remembers very little of her childhood with her birth parents. One of her few memories was learning lip reading, more for her own survival, she started to realize from her parents exaggerated facial shapes and their gestures that patterns stood for difrent things. Once they found out that she was incompatible with an implant or hearing aids they gave up on her and threw her into foster care.

She never considered herself disabled. Fostercare paid for her to learn sign language as well as refine her lip reading abilities. It took her all through elementary school as well as a good portion of highschool, but eventually she could function so well that she rarely needed an interpreter and could normally function and interact with hearing people as long as she had a pad and pencil with her.

It was around this time, when she went from foster home to foster home, that her Totem developed. Finally she landed in a group home that would keep her. Despite her hardships she was always an optimistic person. Rosie got good grades throughout high school, falling in love with technical classes like math and sciences, she loved nothing more than taking something apart and putting it back together.

She did well enough that she got a full ride through college via scholarships. She majored in engineering, specializing in electrical and mechanical and graduated with honors. It was a normal college life, with lots of friends and parties, she could even enjoy music, if it was loud enough for her to feel the vibrations. She had several boyfriends and girlfriends throughout that time. It didn’t take her long to realize she had a preference for other women.

Shortly after graduation she thought she had found ‘the one’, a cheerful lopunny named Sherry that she had been close friends with through college. She even helped Rosie get her first job at her father’s company, drawing up blue prints and electrical plans for huge projects, but their relationship was always secret. Secrets were always something she hated, keeping something from people, doing less than showing your whole self to the world. Sherry refused to be ousted so they kept their relationship secret, it was fine for a time.

They had been together for nearly three years as a couple, friends for eight, but when a time came, that people started to suspect their relationship instead of standing by her side Rosie’s girlfriend threw her under a bus.

Sherry acted like she had never known that aspect about Rosie, and treated her as if she was disgusted by her. Outwardly Sherry refused to talk to her, Rosie even left her job, rather than face the accusing gaze of her Sherry’s father. Sherry even got herself a boyfriend just a few days after the whole incident, as if to prove that she had nothing to do with Rosie, or her kind of behavior.

But as Rosie packed up and prepared to move on with her life, Sherry called, left messages, emails, everything. Trying to apologize, and trying to get her to come back. Rosie had been abandoned enough in her life, packing up only what could easily be shipped or carried with her she left the college town she spent most of her adult life, and went to seek a place where she could build a new one.
